Patricia Bowen, Consultant of The Bowen Group and Kimberly Weeks CEO of BKonnected Marketing, LLC, representing Atlanta Women in Business Loans Non Profit.  Atlanta Women in Business Loans (AtlantaWomenInBusinessLoans.org)

After decades in the corporate world, Patricia Bowen is currently directing her efforts toward fundraising and grant writing for non-profits in metro Atlanta. She started out as a copywriter for a multi-level marketing company that recruited women who had few decent earning options ‘back in the day’, and she’s never stopped supporting girls and women, no matter what her position, no matter what her company.  She moved on to a career in high-tech, eventually directing business partnerships in fourteen countries with dot.coms to Fortune 50 tech companies.  She earned a business coaching certification and then coached executives on her international teams, and went on to form her own company, Change Agents LLC.  Most recently she cofounded a senior move management company, Get Ready for Tomorrow, which helps the families of senior citizens downsize and move, and liquidates estates.

Pat has a Masters degree in Psychology, is multiple entrepreneur, a certified business coach, trained grant writer, experienced fundraiser, and currently sits on the boards of three metro non-profits, helping them raise funds to better serve their clients in need.

Kimberly West Weeks has been in the financial services industry for over 25 years, her career began with Wachovia Corporate Services and for the past 16 years, Kim has focused on providing financial services to community banks across the country.  She was President of QwickRate and most recently, IDC Deposits.  Today, Kim is CEO of BKonnected Marketing, LLC, which provides drip marketing services and sales consulting to small businesses and community banks across the US. www.BKonnected.com

Pat offered great advice to help all women recognize, believe in and learn to employ their own inner qualities and strengths. Listen up ladies, this will allow you to go confidently through your life, long after your ‘babeness’ has faded.

Her words of wisdom include –

We don’t need permission to be who we want to be and to go after what we want, but we may need help.

Seek help wisely, without giving up ownership of your dream.

You can never pay back all those who have given to you.  Pay it forward.

Kimberly shared great advice from her successful business journey in creating BKonnected’s multi-media and marketing approach to staying connected and communicating consistently allowing clients to build better, long-term relationships and grow with new clients.

Elizabeth Gordon goes Heel to Heel with business transformation experts Tanya Mack of The Mackworks and Henna Inam of Transformational Leadership

stream.2011-03-21.133007(2)This week on Heel to Heel, Elizabeth Gordon, founder of Flourishing Business, talks business with Tanya Mack , President of MackWorks, LLC and Henna Inam, CEO of Transformational Leadership.

Tanya Mack is the President and CEO of MACKWORKS, a woman-owned business strategy consulting company that specializes in business transformation, change management, brand renovation and revival, and establishing a trust foundation in corporate environments.

In its first year of operation, MACKWORKS secured a diverse client roster that included a famous foods company run by a celebrity chef, one of the foremost creative advertising agencies in the Southeast, a law firm, and a national IT staffing, services, and healthcare company.

Tanya dispels the myth that a corrective course of action in an industry can only be provided by an individual or firm with experience in that industry. Tanya’s solid business experience as an operations and business development leader in small, medium, and large companies alike, allows her to analyze and create process and performance solutions for any business in any industry.

Here are just some examples of Tanya’s business transformation perspective as she brings wisdom and vision to her clients:

  • Business transformation requires expertise in getting to the heart of a matter, simplifying the situation, managing priorities, building trust along the way to be able to affect change, and holding the vision.
  • There is an epidemic of mistrust in corporate America  today- perhaps in life in America today- it is costly on many levels.
  • Trust or mistrust in business will affect speed and cost.
  • Despite this, there are techniques and methods to increase and sustain trust levels (even though people ultimately have to choose to extend and accept trust!) in an organization.
  • Symptoms of a low trust environment include: withholding information, manipulation of facts, resistance to new ideas, covering up of mistakes, duplicate work, loss of clients,  increase in lawsuits, plateau or downturn of performance results.
  • Benefits of improving trust are: improved leadership skills, increased accountability, wisdom of when to take action vs. not,  improved speed and decreased cost in finding the most effective ways to do accomplish something, improved communication, sustainable organizational strength.

Business Advisor, Elizabeth Gordon interviews Ellen Turner and Laura Boone owners of TurnerBoone, Loren Solomon founder of Advertising for Good, and Jane McCraken, CEO of Proventus Group on The Chic Perspectives Show

Our final episode of The Chic Perspectives Show this year was a great one!  The studio was packed with impressed women entrepreneurs who shared their stories of business success.   Elizabeth Gordon, President of Flourishing Business and bestselling author of The Chic Entrepreneur: Put Your Business in Higher Heels, shined the Chic Spotlight on Ellen Turner and Laura Boone owners of TurnerBoone, Loren Solomon founder of Advertising for Good, and Jane McCraken, CEO of Proventus Group.

Ellen Turner and Laura Boone started TurnerBoone, http://www.turnerboone.com/ a commercial furniture and design firm in 2004 working out of Ellen’s spare bedroom and were dubbed two girls and a car by their mostly male competitors.  Since them, they have doubled their revenue every since opening, in 2009 grew 88% and now have 14 employees and 100+ clients.

They talked about the challenges of being in an industry that has gone through huge declines (commercial real estate), how they have adapted their business and marketing plans to meet and beat this recession and what the future holds.

My next guest was Loren Solomon, an award-winning writer, producer, and Creative Director with over two decades of experience.  Since 1992, Loren has created and developed successful integrated branding campaigns for clients from the local to global arena. Loren graduated with a BA in English from the University of Virginia, attended and taught at The Portfolio Center, one of the top Advertising Graduate Schools in the country.

Her career included stints at J. Walter Thompson, The Martin Agency, and Grey Global before she went out on her own, quickly becoming one of most well-known and respected marketing professionals. Her client work includes Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business, Home Depot, MAP International, CNN, Atlanta Ballet, NIKE, The Coca-Cola Company, American Cancer Society, and more.

Loren talked about starting Advertising for Good http://advertisingforgood.org/ which partners corporations with non-profits with an aim of not only doing good but creating a new revenue stream for corporations.  Hear how she’s convincing big companies how to juice up traditional marketing campaigns by adding in social good elements.

My next guest was CEO of Proventus Group, http://proventusgroup.com which works to improve the business of drug and device development.  Jane’s career has focused on accelerating the growth and value of life science and technology-oriented companies in both the US and Europe.  She has worked with private equity, venture-back and public companies most recently as a member of senior executive teams and earlier in her career, as a venture capitalist and investment banker.

Jane is known for putting strategic thinking into tactical plans with innovative yet practical approaches for strengthening corporate operations, finding new market opportunities, accelerating growth and overcoming challenges.  Prior to joining Proventus, Jane was CEO of Nexus Oncology, an international clinical research organization.  She gained additional experience in the life science industry as CFO of Axis-Shield plc, an invitro-diagnostics company.  Jane also worked in the IT industry and was as CEO of all-hotels.com, an on-line travel company and COO of VIS entertainment, a computer games developer.  She earned her Bachelors degree at Wake Forest University and a Masters degree from Georgia Tech.

Business Advisor Elizabeth Gordon interviews Uli Dendy, Owner of TrueLanguage on The Chic Perspectives Show

Elizabeth Gordon, President of Flourishing Business and bestselling author of The Chic Entrepreneur: Put Your Business in Higher Heels, shines the Chic Spotlight on Uli Dendy, Owner of True Language.

Uli Dendy is a partner in True Language, a Marietta-based translation and software localization business.  Her clients are Fortune 1000 companies that do business around the world and produce web applications or software that must be translated into multiple languages.

Uli was born in Germany and came to the US at age 21 to continue her education.  She earned a degree in microbiology. She was then trained as a technical writer and translator where her scientific background served her well.

Uli has always embraced science and language and translated a desire to study genetics into a thriving enterprise that allows big business to clone its systems into dozens of languages.

Different languages and different cultures can be a real challenge in international business.  True Language translation services make it easy to communicate with foreign markets.  The company translates into 28 plus languages, also understands cultural differences.

As a Business to Business agency True Language specializes in two main areas:

First Tue Language supports corporate communication departments in their efforts to reach out to their foreign audience – be it clients, subsidiaries or employees.  Projects range from translation of legal documents to translation of technical user manuals to websites and everything in between.

Second, True Language supports graphic design and ad agencies.  The company takes the English material in the software it was created in and will translate and then typeset the file to achieve a printer ready file.  They understand the unique requirements to produce an ad piece or brochure in multiple languages, and their help is most appreciated when it comes to languages with a different character set such as Asian, Eastern European or Cyrillic languages.

Uli talked about one recent project for a logistics company who needed their user manuals updated in 19 languages.  They did a version comparison to identify the new text to be translated, made the changes in 19 languages and submitted the files to a client review.  Upon approval, they typeset the files and created a printer ready 40 page user manual for each language.

Uli trained as a technical writer and translator in the localization department of Intergraph, and then became a translator and later a director for a translation house here in Atlanta where she developed leadership skills and a vision of a lively language team supporting our clients.
Here how she’s built True Language through trusted clients and high quality ISO certification standards that differentiate the company and wow Fortune 500 companies clients with on-time project completion.

Listen in to hear all the secrets of Uli’s success and learn how you can:

  • Treat your business like a business
  • Set goals but be flexible in the process of reaching your goals
  • Network and develop genuine connections
